Six Winter Days
Message
American school children read that The Battle of Trenton, on Dec. 26, 1776 was the "Turning Point of the War."
But no Americans died at Trenton. Hundreds of Americans died at Princeton. The Battle of Princeton makes "Trenton" look like a PTA meeting.
So here's the message:
1. These six winter days were the true turning point of the war.
2. It was a miracle that we won. The Americans were young, inexperienced, and scared to death. Even the officers didn't know how to fight a war. We owe a great debt to those few who braved the bullets, cannonballs and especially, the bayonet, to win.
3. Nobody knew who would win the war. The country was divided, about 50-50. It was the first American Civil War.
4. Without Washington, we'd be living in a different world today. Going back to New Jersey after the victory at Trenton was the stupidest thing he could do. But we're lucky he did. This movie explains why he went back, a question I don't believe any historian has ever answered.
